Company ranks #1 in the U.S., UK, and EU , #4 globally
SAN FRANCISCO — July, 2023 — Paravision, the leader in Trusted Vision AI, today announced the most recent validation of its upcoming Gen 6 face recognition, achieving a #4 global ranking and the #1 spot in the U.S., UK, and EU in the esteemed NIST Face Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT) for 1:N Identification. This follows the broad success of Paravision Gen 6 in NIST FRVT 1:1 Verification, as announced last month.
With its analysis of different use cases, database sizes, and accuracy over time, NIST FRVT 1:N (“One-to-N”) test has become the industry standard for comparing the accuracy of face recognition systems at scale. Paravision’s #4 global ranking comes from the key Visa-Border benchmark, which NIST uses as the primary sorting metric for its accuracy leaderboard. In contrast with NIST’s 1:1 Verification Visa-Border test, the highly challenging 1:N Identification Visa-Border test shows a steep dropoff after the top 5 performing vendors. The next-highest ranking vendor from the United States demonstrated an error rate 2.6x higher than Paravision.
Paravision’s Gen 6 technology consistently demonstrated top-tier performance across challenging real-world scenarios, including top-10 global rank in 7 of 8 “Identification Mode” benchmarks and 8 of 8 “Investigation Mode” benchmarks as well as top-5 global rank in 12 of the 16 overall benchmarks. Here, Identification Mode refers to threshold-based matching, which is used in automated systems, whereas Investigation Mode uses a rank-based approach, for which it is expected that a human will review all search results.
The recognition of Paravision face recognition as the top performer in the U.S., UK, and EU in both NIST FRVT 1:1 and 1:N and across so many different benchmarks underscores the wide-ranging usefulness of our Gen 6 technology. We look forward to bringing this NIST-benchmarked software to our partners worldwide, enabling them to deploy advanced and trusted solutions.
Charlie Rice, CTO of Paravision
These results are the latest in a series of successful, repeated submissions to NIST FRVT 1:N since 2018, which included a #1 global ranking in 2022 for Paravision Gen 5 face recognition. Relative to Gen 5, Gen 6 demonstrates a better than 30% reduction in error rates, continuing the steady pace of improvement.
As always, we’re grateful for NIST’s tireless efforts in advancing our industry with diverse, unbiased performance metrics. NIST FRVT provides trusted performance insights for customers across industries and invaluable feedback for our technology team.
