Company is the only provider to deliver #1 overall ranking across all test scenarios
SAN FRANCISCO — Feb 23, 2023 — Paravision, the leader in Trusted Vision AI, today announced that its Gen 5 face recognition software has achieved top matching system rankings in the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) 2022 Biometric Rally, repeating its leading performance from 2021.
The 2022 DHS Biometric Technology Rally tested the ability of face recognition systems to process small groups of people passing through the system while respecting the privacy of people not explicitly using the system. The evaluation involved four acquisition systems and ten matching systems, with 575 diverse volunteers representing broad demographic groups passing through each acquisition system in groups of 2 and 4, representing the real life scenario of groups passing through identity checkpoints together. Paravision’s matching system alias in the test was “Miami.”
Paravision’s highlights of the evaluation include:
-
- 99.8% Matching system-focused True Identification Rate (“Matching-TIR”) across three of four image acquisition devices and 99.5% Matching-TIR on the fourth.
- 100% Matching-TIR for Asian, Black, and White self-reported racial demographic groups across three of four image acquisition devices.
- 100% Matching-TIR for the Darker Skin demographic group on three of four acquisition devices and at or over 99.3% Matching-TIR for Darker Skin and Lighter Skin demographic groups across all image acquisition devices, with skin tone measured by a calibrated color meter.
- 0% Non-User Identification Rate (NU-IR) across seven out of eight acquisition devices (and top-ranking 0.64% NU-IR for the eighth) for Privacy testing, a feat not matched by any other provider.
We are thrilled to achieve these top rankings, which are a testament to our team’s commitment to delivering outstanding performance in operational environments. While we relentlessly work toward improvements, this shows the strength of our commercially available Gen 5 technology and its accuracy across demographic groups.

In addition to the DHS Biometric Technology Rally, Paravision has consistently ranked as a top performer in NIST’s Face Recognition Vendor Test, including achieving the global #1 ranking in 1:N Identification and a top-three global ranking in Paperless Travel. The Rally results offer a complementary look at Paravision’s Gen 5 face recognition technology’s performance, specifically in a system-level operational setting.
Paravision’s leading performance in the DHS Biometric Technology Rally confirms its position as a trusted leader in the biometric industry. In alignment with our AI Principles, we truly appreciate the insights this sort of objective, thoughtful testing gives to our team, our partners, and end users of our technology.
